About the Author: Tommy Suggs traces his Native American roots to his great-great grandmother, Sweetwater, of the Cherokee Tribe. Sweetwater was on the Trail of Tears where four thousand of the twelve thousand Native Americans died on their forced march from North Carolina to Oklahoma. Sweetwater delivered Tommys great grandfather, Thomas Benton Reed, only six months after the completion of this tragic journey. Sweat Lodge, Vision Quest, Pipe Ceremony, and Sun Dance are not just ceremonies studied from books, but are important events that are experienced by Tommy as a regular part of his personal spiritual journey. He has studied with many respected Native American teachers. In addition to being a Sun Dancer, Tommy is a pipe carrier and was given Eagle Medicine during the pipe awakening ceremony conducted by Michael Eagle Bear, adopted grandson of the famous Lakota Sioux medicine man, Fools Crow. Currently Tommy is retired from his tax and small business consulting business. He and wife, Karen, divide their time between their rural homes near San Antonio, Texas, and Fayetteville, Arkansas, and their retreat in the Davis Mountains of West Texas..
